Founded in 1953 in Belgium, Janssen Pharmaceutica has grown to
become a world-wide pharmaceutical company. In 1961 Janssen Pharmaceutica
joined the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies.
Janssen Pharmaceutica's core activity is discovery research, concerned
with the synthesis, development and production of medicines for
human, animal and plant use. The company has chemical and pharmaceutical
production facilities in several countries.
AEXIS has been a partner of Janssen Pharmaceutica since 1990. In
this capacity, an EIS based on mainframe software was delivered
to Janssen Pharmaceutica. In 1995 a migration of this system to
Janssen Pharmaceutica's LAN environment and also to the LAN of Johnson
& Johnson headquarters was carried out.
This Client/Server application, called Pharma WW ESS (Pharma WorldWide
Executive Support System), consisted of a Static Briefing Book section
and an Analytical Investigation section. Reports for the Briefing
Book came from a number of subsystems, like Finance, Sales, Headcount,
Registration and Market data.
The update frequency varied from daily, weekly, monthly to quarterly.
The Analytical Investigation section ran from templates with direct
access to the Essbase database, which has become a standard at Janssen
Pharmaceutica and is also used by the Procurement, the HRM and the
Technical Services division.
Recently, a web-enabled (Intranet) version of the Pharma WW ESS
was built. It is a menu-driven intranet application for Executives
to immediately access key performance information from different
business areas of Johnson & Johnson's Pharmaceutical Franchise,
with Financial data, Market data, Registration data, etc.... This
increased the current user population to about 400 users at more
than 50 sites.
"An EIS should always focus on the key areas of business activity,
in which good results are crucial. Since change, innovation and
dispatch drive today's business environment, an EIS can never be
static. Based on solid experience, we at Janssen Pharmaceutica have
become convinced of the quality of Aexis' local support and the
thoroughness of their understanding and commitment with reference
to the EIS in general"
